Hey! I'm new to this, but I wanted to get my 2 laptops running windows XP SP3 completely updated, with current browsers, and everything I could possibly need keep my computers running for a good while. PS is there any extra software that could prove helpful that isnt microsoft certified, but reputable, that is great to have? THANKS!!

What I am needing is a checklist of sorts, with links.

    what sort of checklist??

programs are a matter of choice, if it is the antivirus, you should look for one that will continue to support xp, kaspersky will continue it's support but it is not free.

chrome is more secure than firefox, but I like firefox better, do not use IE8 at all as it is not supported.

you can run your pc in a sandbox and thus keep everything off your drive

besides antivirus, run Malwarebytes as an on demand scanner.
