    My ancient PSPA3C-MA502C still works.
    i tried lots of antivirus programs but they did not wish to install.
    can this software still be updated?
    i do not want to connect to the internet without an antivirus installed and maybe the antivrus softwares need a later version of XP or some updates.
    thanks all

    sp 3 download as you have a 32bit system and you need to be updated to sp3

    you will need to download to a flash drive and carry all downloads that I have given you over to the pc you want to update.

    my onedrive, you will need to download the 4.5 installer, (latest version for xp), the ie8 (16.1MB), the ie8 updates (about 12 of them) and you can also download sp3 (316mb) from here or the link above.

    above is the antivirus I have been using for approx 5 years. download the full package for offline install, and also download the Avira database, you will see a green box on the right hand side of the page, click that to select the database download, the bitdefender database comes with the full package,

    when I do a reinstall I always do a scan first before going online to microsoft updates

    -==============

    after you have downloaded and installed all the above, then you can go online directly to windows updates by going to start / all programs / and the link will be at the top, when you get there you will be asked if you want to update to microsoft updates, you should say yes, then do a scan, there will be a few items and an active x update that have to be installed first, once these have been done and you have rebooted, go back to the site and do a custom scan, this will be a lengthy process, as there are some 200 updates after sp2, and it might take all your cpu, just let it go and might have to let it go over night, but it will get done. and there are some updates that you will have to install with a shutdown and not a restart, to tell, go to start/ shutdown/ and look at the dialog box is there a little shield icon over the shutdown button then you will need to shutdown, and some updates will be installed this is also a lengthy process, let it run your pc will shutdown when it is through.

    Webroot Secure Anywhere works very well. Do not under any circumstances use AVG or AVAST. They are now one and the same company. AVG failed to install and uninstall properly and left me with a broken Windows Search problem which is taking days to resolve.
