Is there any way to make the boot loading screen (i.e. with the blue progress bar, not the pre-login screen) display at a 16:9 resolution?

Nope -- the boot screen uses the lowest possible resolution so that it will show regardless of monitor, graphics card, video system, or TV being used. It's basically "failsafe" mode.

from a thread at microsoft forum, but maybe the below might either help/or explain further, many ways to change the picture but not the resolution

BTW: why do you want to change it?

I meant the very first XP screen displayed, not the BIOS screen.
