What's with MyPal?

I've been doing some updating work on my XP SP3 Home PC. Until now I've been using Firefox 52.9.0 ESR as the internet browser. It works, but there are other browsers that are said to work better with XP. MyPal is mentioned a lot. I've tried to download it from the official site, but each time the download is at a snail's pace, and each time the download fails to complete for some reason. This also happens on my up to date W-11 PC. What's going on with MyPal? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

I would avoid Mypal 68.14.8b (for now) and go with:

Right now Feodor is getting away form xul and this transition will prove to be a challenge and take time to get it right. I have faith he will indeed bring Mypal68 up to date eventually but I discovered bugs in 8b and returned to 7b with no issues.

Good luck and enjoy - you won't be disappointed with Mypal. Another option is Hydra browser (basilisk fork)

Where does one get the Hydra browser, my good man ?

Thanks for the tips. I did download MyPal 68.14.8, but could not get it to install. I'm computer literate up to a point, but MyPal seems too complicated to install. An automatic installation would be a big improvement. Meanwhile, I've downloaded and installed Supermium, which installed quickly and easily with no hassle, and also gets good reviews.

UPDATE: I installed Supermium and tried it out. At least on my XP machine, it is very slow to load and produce search results compared to Firefox 52. Quite a difference as a matter of fact. So I'm back to Firefox 52. Incidentally, when I used Supermium, my Panda Dome AV suddenly switched off and had to be manually reactivated. Weird and suspicious.

I'd still like to try MyPal, but would need some simple advice about how to install it. All I got when I unzipped the folder was a load of files. I didn't see anything like "Install" or "Setup". Maybe I missed something.

You don't need to 'install' mypal. Just unzip the files to a new folder and in the folder you will see a file that says mypal.exe. Just click on that and the browser will begin to work. That's really it. At least that's how I remember! LOL

Thanks Boss. I downloaded the 68.14.7b file from the official Git site and found and clicked the .exe file. Panda Dome picked up a virus and blocked it. I think I'll just let it go. Thanks to all anyway for the help.

Well, I was able to install MyPal 68.14.4. I have a good impression of the browser and would like to keep it. But there's no shortcut on the desktop and I don't see a way to create one. I've checked for guidance on the internet, but this issue is not addressed. How is a shortcut to MyPal created? MyPal doesn't show among "All Programs".

I haven't used any of the most recent mypal browsers, so I've never had any virus notification before. However, there may be something in the newer versions that is setting off your virus detection. Either way enjoy mypal! As XP users, it's one of the best browsers for us.

You will be happy with Mypal68. Did panda tell you which files its picked up as suspicious? Nobody I know has had any issued and if so, I'll try to get a hold of feodor and let him know of any. We will help you here getting started with Mypal. Supermium also is very very slow for me and so is Thorium.

I use 68.14.7b and my antivirus software (Rogue Killer - Quick Heal Anti-Bot - Malwarebytes - RootkitBusterV5.0-1212) doesn't pick up anything, but good luck with 14.4 and Enjoy. 8b is safe but still a work in progress as feodor is doing a major overhaul to the browser and issues have been reported on MSFN. I think its a false positive on Panda, but please let us know.

Just go to the folder were you have mypal and right click the exe file and when the box opens pick sent to desktop (create shortcut)
Many thanks! I decided to remove 14.4 and go for the 14.8, which is described as "stable". Panda once again stopped it executing, but did not specify and particular file, just the whole folder. I "excluded" it, and MyPal installed with no problem. I just ran a Malwarebytes scan, and it found nothing.

Thanks for the tip about creating a desktop shortcut, which I did. I look forward to using MyPal, which seems to be a definite improvement over Firefox 52. Thanks to all for the helpful tips.
