I've found some work, some dont, quite a few offer 32 & 64 versions. I never found antivirus that worked with 64, so I stay offline with 64. <- no a/v plus 8± gigs ram, XP-64 does fly!.
Tweak 64 bit version, Ultrasearch 64, Iconoid 64, etc, etc,

Any 32-bit programs that are compatible with XP SP2 should work on 64-bit XP. Not sure if XP x64 still has compatibility with 16-bit programs (AFAIK XP was the last 32-bit MS OS to have native support for 16-bit programs; that got dropped in Vista and hasn't made a reappearance since in any later Windows versions).

Microsoft Windows XP Home / Professional / Media Center Edition - Service Pack 3, 32-bit

above from system requirements for avast version 18.6.3983.0

http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php?system=Windows_XP_x64

last version for 64 was version 10.......

are you sure your avast install is not a 32bit install, which will run on 64 but not sure if it is working properly

All real-time AV scanners employ kernel drivers to hook into filesystem activity. On 64-bit systems this of course needs a 64-bit kernel driver.

Guess I shoulda said 'a decent antivirus', , , ,
I have run across some 32 bit stuff that does not work with 64

(me = xp pro 32 sp3 and xp64 sp2)

50/50 on avast, if it works for you then that is good, most do not like avast after it started with the many nag screens to upgrade.
