Hello from Aunty Jack,
Vista Forums has an area where members can give details of their hardware - interesting to some members. With XP I will bet that a lot of us use old hardware and try to modify/tweak the old thing to get the best out of whatever it is. So, let's start a new thread about hardware and see how we go.
My hardware for XP is:-
Dell Optiplex GX270 – date of manufacture 2004
BIOS updated from Version AO4 to AO7
Intel Pentium 4 – 3Ghz processor
RAM – 1 Gb (motherboard will support 4Gb – impossible to find old 1Gb RAM chips)
Graphics – onboard Intel 82865G – one day obtain a better graphics card
Internet – Realtek Wi-Fi 802.n to modem/router for the “big PC”
OS – Windows XP Home (lightened and tweaked)
Hard Disk – 100 Gb Maxtor IDE rescued from external USB connect drive
Cooling – Dell infamous for running hot – have seen CPU temperature hit 70 deg Cel.
Six inch silent fan (boxed on two sides) installed over heatsink and airflow through CPU cooling fins. Max CPU temp now 48 deg Cel under load.
Sound – Soundmax driver for XP to suit motherboard (Intel) sound chip (use headphones).
USB ports – 8 (as per business model GX270)
Monitor – Benq FP92W LCD
Cheers from Aunty Jack.
