openGL

Is there some reason why you have not updated to service pack 3??

this may be why you can not get this program installed.

…you can ignore the text that says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text advising Windows/Microsoft Update if only updating one PC.
Reboot twice after installing.

then go to microsoft updates install all high priority updates, even if you do not use this to go online, just update it.

I also have a dell dimension 3000, with xp pro and sp3, fully updated, would need to know the blue screen error, but I do not believe it would be due to sp3, however stranger things have happened.

Do you plan to get a new video card?? if so, make sure it is one compatible with your os and with your pc.

plus i dont know how to change video cards[ex. wether i should just uninstall rage and download a new one after i had uninstalled rage.)

and i have windows xp pro on this computer and a windows xp Home disc, and this desktop is all i got.

well, you cannot put xp home in place of xp pro or vice versa

for stop error:

This error may occur due to any exception generated by the system thread that is not caught by the error handler. There can be many reasons for this type of exception to occur. Some of the reasons for the exception are given below:

The computer BIOS does not support Windows XP. Either it is incompatible with the Windows XP or it has been recently updated
The system is running out of disk space to be able to support a Windows XP setup and installation.
A system service or a device driver is corrupted or has been damaged.
The video adapter drivers of your computer have some compatibility issues with Windows XP.
If the concern for the issue is the Win32k.sysfile, then it may occur due to a third-party remote control program.

To clarify, pc is a dell dimension 3000 with sp2, and it will not install opengl, and you are getting a blue screen, is this correct??

I seem to be getting out of my depth, so you might want to post at the opengl forums at the above link.

I would advise updating the optiplex to sp3 and getting it patched from micosoft updates. you could download the sp3 to a flash drive or cd and then install manually as MS updates will not work without sp3 anymore.

==================

let me know if you post in the opengl forum and post a link so I can follow, I would like to know why you can not install.

that depends on the make and model of pc's in question

you would need to see if the one card is compatible with the pc

check google for the manufacturer of the graphics card and see if it is compatible with the pc.

you have uninstalled the rage, correct? what is the graphics card now??

do this:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.
You can edit out any personal information.

instead of system summary , expand components, then expand multimedia, highlight display and copy/paste that to the next reply, then I can see which graphics card is installed.

do this for the one you want to trade so I can check and see if it is compatible to the optiplex.

The Rage 128 Pro was already pretty outdated by the time Windows XP came
out. The 2001 driver provides full functionality. Any trouble with games now
cannot be solved by a new driver. The card is lacking the hardware features
to run those games.

from HERE

so an updated driver will not help, but tell me the make, model and model number of the card you want to install so I can check if it is compatible with the optiplex.
