MSE not seen by Windows

I am using MSE as my AV. It is up to date and protectring the computer. If I open MSE it is all green and the computer is protected.
However, I get an alert from the Security Center that Windows does not see any AV.
Seems to me that, years ago when I had an WXP, I didn't have that problem. Can I make an adjustment somewhere?
