Writing this on Librewolf browser, I regret that I haven't discovered the browser earlier. It uses DuckDuckGo and blocks cookies by default, also doesn't steal date UNLIKE FIREFOX.
Yes, Firefox. The browser that until recently was a balance between privacy and user convenience. The same browser, that was the default on many Linux distributions, like Puppy Linux, Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Fedora Linux.
Itself being a fork of Chrome (that initially didn't steal data), it has been forked many times into browsers like Pale Moon and Librewolf. Now, these developers will need to remove all the spyware features from the browser once beloved by privacy-conscious users in order to fork it.
It is a shame to see how corporate greed can turn successful software projects into what is basically a Trojan (malware type). Yes, Google Chrome is like a Trojan, sending your data to servers, in this case, controlled by Google, itself controlled by Alphabet Inc. The difference between what is most commonly called a Trojan is that the servers aren't controlled by some random hacker. Arguably, Google is worse than a hacker, since the hacker will not be able to sell the data to as many agencies as Google and it is easier to prevent the hacker from future harm.
TLDR: Discovering that Mozilla will now sell data from Firefox ruined my day. Once I got home, I booted up the computer and migrated to Librewolf. Most of you won't have the problem, since you already use Supermium or Pale Moon on your Windows XPs. God save you if you use Internet Explorer.
A browser that I told all of my friends to migrate to from Google Chrome has just become the same as Chrome itself.
Puppy Linux already removed Firefox and replaced it with Pale Moon. Good job to them!
This left me wondering - how many more software projects will become spyware? Will my projects become spyware in the future? I hope I will look back and see how much disappointment we have gotten in such times if I ever think of monetizing anyone's privacy.
One day we will know...
