Microsoft security essentials

no, microsoft security essentials is no longer supported for xp

What does it exactly mean that they are ending support for the platform? Well, the company will stop providing new antivirus definitions for the software. What that means, is that the software simply will not be updated after that date. If you continued to use Microsoft Security Essentials with Windows XP, you will be protected against viruses in the database prior to July 2015, but your computer will be susceptible to malicious software created after that date

I'm still getting definitions past the July 14 2015 deadline for XP's MSE. Isn't it great?

That's only b/c I'm running the 2nd very last version of MSE ever built for XP. I'm pretty sure there are many happy users out there experiencing another "termination of security definitions" notices out there that installed the last bogus MSE version.

As for me, I'll be content to receive security definitions up to 2020 since it's basically the same source code for Win7 recompiled for XP...

Go to FileHippo and look up MSE v 4.4.304.0. Possibly there may be some ways that newer MSE versions on 7 and Vista utilize the definitions, but XP's version listed above still works with them.
:)

Sorry, not a fan of anything Symantec. Norton AV products in the early 2000s became a bloated mess.

What's the download link to this Last version of MSE?

The last "working" version of MSE without the annoying XP EoL nagging is listed in the message above. Isn't Microsoft such a nice company for pulling that version off their servers?

This is the link to manually download the latest definitions only:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971606

I updated my XP MSE about a week ago manually dl-ing the definitions and it worked.

Why do you think? I don't know how to get the latest DirectX update post 9.0c, because MS took it off or something.

(I want to use snes9x 1.53)

Plus, you can't view the Windows site even in IE8, it's stupid, and it nags you to get Windows 8.1.

the first link leads to web installer (the first HERE from odditer's reply)

the second here leads to the same link above.

I have no problem getting to this page.

If you still cannot get it I can download it and upload it to my onedrive, but some people have told me that they cannot get to my onedrive public page, even with the link I give, but am will ing to try, :)

by the way I am using firefox browser to do this, not IE

lol, I had to get it off Softpedia (microsoft external mirror) in the end, Firefox started going at about 7k/second earlier and IE6 doesn't want to download it from the official site. (I don't like IE8, it looks ugly and is slower)

Here is result of Snes9x 1.53 after update made (Web Installer from DirectX June 2010):

It works! Thanks. Direct3D doesn't work (DirectDraw and OpenGL do, though), but there's nothing wrong with XAudio2 now, which is much better than Snes9x DirectSound. If only I got the web post update thing in the first place.
