MediaPlayer and VirtualDub Crash When I Open Big Video

I try to run a 20 minute 30 FPS .avi video using MediaPlayer. First, the frames glitch for a few seconds (frames from beginning and end merge and flash), then Media Player crashes. That's the same as with VirtualDub - a few seconds and then a crash.

Could you please tell me how to fix this error or give me any possible alternatives?

Thanks in advance! Screenshots below.

Update: VLC 1.1 works for media viewing, still need a video editor.
You may like the combination aoao video converter (to disassemble a video into frames, among the rest) and Photolapse (to reassemble a set of frames into a video). Both run smoothly on XP.
You'll need a codec pack but most likely you already have one installed. If you don't, try here.

I don't need to recommend you to double check whatever you download before running it, do I? ;)

I highly recommend PotPlayer. Until recently, they still supported Windows XP. Here I'm using a version from 2014 - https://www.videohelp.com/software/PotPlayer/old-versions

Unfortunately, streaming from URL doesn't work on this version and very likely won't work on versions other than the latest. This feature has to be constantly updated because YouTube has a habit of changing their server processing every now and then.

But for normal video and audio playback, I think this is a perfect choice. It has a ton of useful features, like moving frame by frame (both forwards and backwards). It is lightweight and will play any format. I've never experienced stutters or glitches.
