McAfee, Norton, and Avg are not well thought of,
Avast, and MSE are well thought of, I have been using MSE in real time and MBAM as an on demand scanner once a week or so. so far so good.
read the checklist to install MSE carefully if you decide to try it.

comodo also has a mind of its own and sometimes will conflict with xp system, just make sure that you know exactly what it is doing.
for example it might delete all your restore points and keep you from making a restore point, its firewall will interfere with windows firewall if you do not disable one or the other.

It (mcafee) is a resource hog but there is a tool especially designed to remove it. I use Avast free & advise all the users that i clean their computers to use. I have been cleaning computers of infections & Malware for over 9 yrs, on line at G4. If you would like i will post the tool !!
