This doesn’t apply solely to Windows XP, and the research / testing done thus far has been fruitless.
I have several browsers installed on XP, Win7, and Linux machines, and the bookmarks are stored in either HTML or JSON file formats. Up till now I’ve been trying to merge various bookmark files only from FF Clone browsers. (Serpent & MyPal).
Most of the online reading states that the files would first need to be exported and saved in HTML format, and then added to another browser to end up with the recipient browser having all of it’s original bookmarks, plus the donor bookmarks WITHOUT duplicates. Perhaps this worked with FireFox 52.9 ESR, but I no longer have that browser installed anywhere. On Serpent & MyPal however, you end up with quite a mess as your entire bookmarks menu is doubled displaying mostly duplicate folders and links.
I’ve tried some of the most popular merging programs, and some websites where you can upload (either HTML or JSON) files to be merged, but my browsers say the resulting merged file cannot be processed. The last thing I tried was an online merge utility on two MyPal bookmark files, but the resulting merged file wasn’t accepted by the MyPal browsers either.
I couldn’t find anything on this forum, so if anyone has dealt with this before and came up with a working solution, please let us know.
