I have an older "Enpower" machine with Win98 Pro installed. On startup I get "Disk Read Error occurred - press ctrl-alt-del to restart. It just goes to the same message each time. After searching this post, I located my original "recovery disk" (WIN XP Home Edition, but need guidance, and need to know what I should expect.

not sure what you mean, but a recovery disk IS NOT an install disc,
