My favorite retro 3D package XL6-7... Just uploaded after reconfiguring to minimize 'novice errors'...
https://archive.org/details/cinema-4d-xl6
Cinema 4D XL6.207 from 2000... With included BodyPaint3D which was one of the best 2D painters back then as well as 3D paint... Claim to fame was BodyPaint used as 2D to paint the background matte paintings of Rome in Gladiator (2000)... It was certainly the only painter that could go 16 K resolution...
This revised upload includes many extras as individual RARs & adjustments have been made to avoid novice error...
1 - In settings 'Use Quicktime' has been turned off to avoid the 'Icon Error' crash if a person does not have QT installed (even free version)... If you DO have QT installed you should engage this feature there are many benefits...
2 - Many plugins have been added including all the Jurgen Meier Coffee Plugs which are parametric generators for many different shapes, You will need to place a smoothing tag on these... Once your parameters are set & you make the parametric 'editable' it is then like any other polygon object...
3 - You will need to set texture paths in the prefs directory otherwise C4D won't be able to find them...
4 - This whole C4D directory can be placed anywhere the two codes you will have to input are in 'Cereal.txt'...
5 - I never use the horrid default grey GUI but left it that way anyway... But there are TIF patterns in the Resource/Patterns folder that you can use to tile a texture on the GUI in prefs 'Use Pattern/Texture' will default to this folder which is DIFFERENT from the main patterns folder... Also in Resource/Icons there is a sub-folder that has some viewport icon strips that I have repainted in different colors in case one uses a darkish color on the GUI but wants a LIGHT colored font the only thing that can/has to be changed is the strip in the parent folder, backup the original black one... Some font colors cannot be changed like in the object & material manager...
6 - Various tutorials included as separate RARs plus some video tuts... There is a 3D Paint tutorial GIF that should be grabbed... I did this in XL7 but it's exact same for XL6... There is no 'Paint Wizard' in these old XLs so it shows you EXACTLY how to get started & once you learn the manual way to start 3D painting you will never want to use a 'STUPID Wizard' which does what it wants & not what YOU want...
7 - These XLs are old, yes... But trust me these are the EASIEST FULL-PACKAGE 3D VERSIONS OF ALL to learn... Later versions - harder... Other 3D like 3ds Max, Maya, XSI, Lightwave... All harder...
8 - Best way to learn BodyPaint is to just start using it instead of Photoshop or PSP or other you can use it for digital illustration or image editing it has layers & both layer & brush blend modes & much more & functions like say pen pressure or width can be assigned to even mouse wheel...
9 - Have not tried the BP-Lightwave connector but have tried the 3DS Max to Bodypaint Connection works well works for 3DS Max 2.5 & 3.1 all the way up to Max 8... Yup, I declare...
One thing I forgot to add is if you wanna run this on windows 7-8-10-11 it should do OK but since your OpenGL is gonna be way past the pale you should turn off 'Use OpenGL' in prefs... I have it on my ASUS Transformer with windows 10 64bit works great...
Here's a matte painting of Rome from Gladiator (2000)-
My current project modeling Noomi Rapace face-head... It's in XL7 but same deal can be done in XL6 with full 3D paint-
About some of the best work done in old XLs-
