Imagine this tablet I'm typing on was a quantum computer from a couple of decades in the future...
Anyways, USA already has pseudo-quantum computing, but not a true quantum PC.
Scientific fields in which China is way ahead of USA:
1. Rail guns. Chinese tech is not only more reliable, but more advanced than the American counterpart.
2. Hypersonic glide vehicle. Most ppl assume this to be some sort of unmanned hypersonic airplane that delivers a nuclear payload. No, it's simply a nuclear warhead that travels at Mach 10 or more and can maneuver to hit a moving target like an aircraft carrier.
3. Quantum communication satellite. China launched the world's first such satellite last summer and it is working better than expected.
4. China expects to have the worlds first exascale (1000 pflops) supercomputer 2-3 years before the USA. It might not seem impressive, but a couple of years is like a long time when dealing with tech evolution and progress.
5. Not really ahead, but by 2024, China will operate the world's only operational space station after the ISS retires from service.
BTW, I'd love to post the source (about quantum computing here) here, but it's all in Chinese...
