After messing about with 2.71 yesterday on some different machines decided to go with using 2.49b as it functions more like a stallion & I like the older 'unified' GUI much better...
2.49b is the very last of the 'old code' so is much better at resources than anything 2.5-up & still has everything one needs... Sculpting, 3D Paint, Projection Paint (new in 2.49), GLSL Shaders/MatCaps, Global Illumination, Caustics, Hair, Fur, Etc, etc>>>
This is a special version of 2.49b that is not around anymore, I got it off Graphic-All years ago & it was on there for about a month then they changed the whole damn website & it never reappeared again... It has all kinda extras inside (without any instability) plus LuxRender as well that's inside it... You just have to add the path to the EXE & you are done, the LuxBlend Script is already installed...
Other than that I have all the 2.49 eBooks that were available (commercial-free) this is well over half the ISO plus some galleries & videos... One of the videos is part of the SIGGRAPH 2005 Demo-

There's plenty of 2.49 videos on YT still here's a good series but does not appear to be a playlist-

I will be coming back to add a helluva lot of links I just don't have them organized yet...
Because of the early 'unified' GUI most all videos from 2.3 or 2.4 apply to 2.49 unlike later where they kept changing everything like every build...
