Any 'Bird Peeples' Here? Trying to Find Help Regarding Gilligan>>>

Tend to get tired of YT... Too many ads then BANG! The person who made the video is selling something right in the middle of the cast, That's when I leave...

Anyway about 10 days ago outside cat deposited a baby brown thrasher on the back porch as Wife was there (unharmed)... Unable to locate any mothership had no choice but to take the poor little tyke in as MY project... In MY bathroom feeding 10-12 times a day... Since he's a bit of a castaway & has become 'My Little Buddy' I named him/her 'Gilligan' for a she 'Gillian'...

But NOW trying to get Gilligan to feed himself, from tweezers no problem but made a perch & a tray right in front of perch where I place food first so he can see it then tweeze into beak but seems to not self-feed by learning this way... Wife had a worm this morning but I could not see the relevance to feeding off a surface but he had no interest in the worm, just backed away from it...

Really wanna get him to self-feed as this takes alot of time away... I was gone cutting & bucking a load of firewood this morning when I got back he was 'chirping me off' because it had been 2.5 hours...

Figured maybe here their might be someone who knows something & ad free to boot... Thanks for inputs>>>

There has been a scientist who brought up a sparrow. Sparrows have a lot different in behavior than thrashers though...
Like ClippyBeer said, there are probably dedicated forums to this.

. . .

Just my 2 cents:
a few generations ago my girlfriend and I picked up an orphan baby woodpecker and, after a few failed attempts to entrust it to someone more knowledgeable than us, resolved to adopt it. As in your case tweezers-feeding was OK but the little thing refused to help itself no matter how appetizing the meal, and that went on for several weeks, almost a month if memory serves. Then something snapped within its little skull and the fledgeling started to ask for food, to help itself and even to try to fly. Apparently all it took was plenty of patience till nature worked things out.

Believe it or not, a few days later we even succeeded teaching it to fly - by throwing it to one another in the garden like a softball: after a moment of initial panic Mother Nature made up for our irresponsibility and took over. Half an hour later the little thing flew away on its own and we never saw it again.
Which (among the rest) also proves that, just like in our schools, one can teach things he or she has no clue about... :D

Thanks all & Chiron many THX maybe that's the answer I need, more patience & a bit more time for brains to mature... If the self- feeding happens then he's good to go... Flying is no problem, very good at it actually... Once he flew off up in the bathroom & gracefully landed on the curtain, another time I came in & he was not in the box so must've forced his way up through the cloth as I have a light cloth on top for ambient light to cast through & he was just sitting on the edge of the night stand & opened his beak when I approached... He may have gotten some encouragement as I have a Nakamichi Cube playing various birdsong tracks in there so he don't feel 'alone'...

Yeah, I know there are bird forums but I don't care to have to 'join up' with any just to use 'once'... I have found some information using yandex as search but google quite sucks very terrible these days...
