Dear all

I need your help please.

MY CONDITION
I have Win XP Pro SP2 installed with all the recent updates
PC is a PIV 3G2 1G RAM 120 G HD

PROBLE
I tell you what's the problem for which I'm asking a desperate help

I have a DVD/CD recorder Lite-On LH20A1P in the second IDE Interface a
master. No slaves.
It was working well till some days ago.
At once, and I have not clue "why", Windows XP stopped to work wit
it.

-Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Manager-

I find a big "exclamation mark" over my DVD/CD recorder.
Ok ... I uninstall the driver ( following the procedure: right click
uninstall, restart computer and follows reinstall procedure ) without b
successful .. again Error 37

Then I redo the same operations in Safe Mode ... I obtain the same ba
results.

Error 37

Looking in the website of Microsoft, I see they tell:"it's dependin
from driver" and they suggest only the procedure I did and did no
worked at all.

So, I thought was a problem with new windows drivers ( perhaps it ha
downloadad during one of its own automatic updates ) that doesn'
recognize anymore my "old" DVD/CD writer ...

Ok ... today shops were opened, so I was up there to buy a new Son
Optiarc AD 7240S with SATA interface.

Ok ... I came at home, I disconnected the "old" IDE device ( th
Lite-On ), I installed it enabling SATA port from Bios ... and the BIO
saw it perfectly ... as it saw it perfectly the new DVD/CD Writer. BU
Windows .............. ERROR 37 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AGAIN !!!!!!!!!
Windows see it very well but the driver.

Useless to connect Sony's website because there is not any driver ..
of course.. windows should/MUST see it ... but it's th same hystory fo
other many readers.

Anyway ... I have reconnected also the "old" Lite-On in order to se
what can happens ... .anything ... situation is the same.
In attachment the screenshot of my situation.

Please I'm wondered if anyone here can help me to solve this issue.
I really cannot imagine what to do again ...

Thank you very much in advance ..

Tiziano, there's nothing Unique about your LiteOn drive. WinXP should
have the necessary drivers. You could have corrupt
drivers. Try going back into Device Manager>Dvd/Cdrom Drives. Rt click
on each one and choose Uninstall. Uninstall the
device not the driver. Restart and let WinXP reinstall the Drives.

Hi Rick

It's what I did also ... without any result ... unfortunately whe
Windows restarts, it recognize the hardware or better: it recognizes tha
anew hardware is installed .. it sees also the hardware's type but th
result is the same you can see in the previous attachment ... as you ca
imagine, I'm really frustrate in this moment :

Usually the symptoms of that problem are when you open MyComputer the
dvd/cd drives do not show up. So I learned something
new myself. Glad that it worked for you. Happy New Year
