WMM and AVCHD (.mts) files

I am on XP pro SP2, I have installed FFDSHOW and Haali Splitter, so now WMP11
can play AVCHD (.mts files).
I have also tested Windows Media Encoder, and it can read and convert these
files.

I cannot load the .mts files in Movie maker, but if I rename them as .avi,
or .mp4, They load and play fine in Movie maker.

The only problem, is when trying to save the movie using either one of the
standard output, or a custom profile created with WME to generate 720p at VBR

It starts the output, and crashes right away, creating only a 6kb file.

Is there any registry tweak (or other solution) to allow WMM to output from
one of these files (liek there was to enable WMM to use DVR-MS files.

Thanks

Maybe the following article would offer some ideas:

Movie Maker - Importing AVCHD Files

Thanks but no, this is about conversion, whcih I can do with Windows media
encoder. I am trying to use the actual .mts avchd file in WMM without prior
conversion.

You're welcome...but conversion happens
to be what works in Win XP Movie Maker.

Here's another article:
High Definition Camcorder Sony HDR-HC1

Good luck with your experiment.

I know, it is just that being able to actually load them and play them in
Movie Maker just not render them out again to a windows format, makes me feel
it may just need some minor registry fix to work.
The same way dvr-ms is not normally supported in XP MM, but a few registry
changes makes it possible to load and render these without problem.

Any luck with this Ducati? I'm also wondering the same thing! I too have
the problem with the first 6kb of the video getting written to disk before
WMM just crashes and goes away. This is very frustrating to not have native
support and the idea of converting the video just seems silly.

No, i am afraid there wont be any solution on XP. The new live movie maker
(Vista and up only) normally supports AVCHD natively.

If you are Windows 7 user, your Windows Live Movie Maker supports for AVCHD files importing and editing. But I am not sure Windows Movie Maker for XP and Vista.

If you have difficulty in importing and editing AVCHD files to Windows Movie Maker, have a try the following MTS Converter which helps you to decode AVCHD to AVI or WMV for easily importing and editing in WMM.
