Hello,

There is an XP command-line command to maintain services: SC.
Where I can find the detailed documentaiton on the diagnostic and error
mesages for that command?
It reports something like that:
"[SC] StartSevice FAILED 3: The system cannot find the path specified" or
"[SC] ControlService FAILED 1062: The service has not been started"

Neither MSDN nor Google seem to know anything about this messages.

Hope for your help,

Thanks,
DP

I am looking for the windows sc command ControlService FAILED error messages also. I can't find them even after may searches using Google. It has been six years since the above post, it seems like someone should have found this documentation somewhere???

The messages I get include:
[SC] ControlService FAILED 109:
[SC] ControlService FAILED 1053:
Both are occuring intermittently when we try to stop a service. Want to automate the stop/start of services and the script act intelligently based upon the returned error code value. But I can't find these error message numbers anywhere!?!?

The answer is: Open a command window, use these commands:

NET HELPMSG ####

Example:
C:\>net helpmsg 109
The pipe has been ended.

C:\>net helpmsg 1053
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
