Just a quick one -- is there any way to use the tab key (or any keystroke combination to cycle through the icons in the taskbar when an app is open?

What I mean is that there are certain keystrokes that you can use in order to highlight icons and carry out actions rather than use the mouse -- when you show the desktop and press the tab key, it 'cycles' or puts a little box around each desktop icon -- then it goes to the taskbar and highlights it (or seems to put it in relief) -- each icon, and then if you want to open that app or document, you jut hit return. I was wondering if there was a way to highlight he icons in the taskbar when the desktop isn't showing -- right now the only way I can do this if the desktop is showing and there are no documents open (such as word, for example) If I want to cycle through the taskbar items, then I have to show the desktop before I can do that. Does that make sense?
