    @WindowsXPforever : sir, i would make them with 'Windows Updates' & 'Microsoft Updates' after installation. The other way is slip streaming Updates in iso with nlite before installation and save resources.

    Make sure you don't end up updating the components you have tailored !

    Sir, I would use the traditional way ''Check for updates'' in "Windows Updates" ( the sources are of course Microsoft Servers ! ). It will update your system to the last point when actually the updates were stopped. I think It doesn't need using the old dangerous IE and you can safely disable it and made the updates as in windows later versions. I would make a list of them and the next time i would use nlite & slipstream those updates in the original iso before installation !

    I don,t think XP is abandonware and Microsoft released the code to the public. Only Microsoft Knows the source code.
