sound problem, help!

after removing vista and replacing with xp pro sp3, all worked fine except now the sound is skippy and stutters bad. as long as nothing is happening on the computer, it seems okay. but the moment i open the browser or another program runs, that's when it gets real bad.

and....how do i get rid of the yellow ques. mark. "modem device on high def. audio bus"??
