    Hello,
I worked on a Toshiba Satellite 1905-s301 that had issues with wireless, owner had deleted the drivers. I did some windows updates, now files will play on Media Player, after song is clicked on player closes or states it encountered a problem. I have even tried VLC and quicktime
neither even open. I have tried a couple fixit's from Microsoft but I get error message that troubleshooter boot strap has encountered a problem. I know this is an older computer, but he uses it in between sets (he is a musician) to play fill in music.

    Any help would be appreciated

okay, let's insure your system is clean and not infected.

    1. what is your current antivirus??

    2. what other scanners do you have installed?

    3. do the following:

Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

Remove all found, reboot, and run again until scans run clean, these can be removed afterwards if you so choose. Run scans one at a time, please.
    =============

after it is clean, then I want you to run checkdisk:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us
    How to perform checkdisk

if you do not have Recovery Console installed, then run from the start menu

go to start, run, type in cmd

in cmd type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter

type Y for yes and press enter

    type exit and press enter

restart pc, allow checkdisk to finish and run again

this is a lengthy process depending on the size of your harddrive, the percentages will fluctuate, this is normal, you can view report in the event viewer.

go to start>run> and type in eventvwr.msc, click on the applications directory, and in the right hand panel choose winlogon.

    Thanks for the help,
He was running Avast, deleted it though thinking it was blocking programs.
He has SAS, Malwarebytes and CCleaner.

I ran SAS, and MBAM. Then chkdsk.

At this point I would say you have to buy a new harddrive as that one is failing.

You never want any bad sectors on a disc!!
