Muahahaha Intel Speedstep

    My primary beater laptop is a Dell from 2007. Secondary is Fujistu from 2013.

    Here's the one thing the Dell has that the Fujitsu doesn't: Intel Speedstep.


    I can disable it in the BIOS and effectively operate both CPU cores at the baseline of 1.0 GHz, whereas the native speed is 2.0GHz/core.

    With a Watt meter, I'm getting a reading of 38W max consumed (power brick rated at 65W). That's with both CPU cores at 100% load and battery and a USB energy-zapping peripheral plugged in too!


    Really loving the ability of Speedstep to underclock the CPU for power saving!
