new hardware generic volume shadow copy?

Win XP Home, P4, 2.6 1024 ram

I recently made a few changes mostly in the form of
upgrading some backup software (Dantz Retrospect
Professional), installing new Palm software etc.

I have now uninstalled the Dantz Retrospect upgrade and
have also uninstalled the Palm software.

All of a sudden, at what appear to be random times,
Windows suddenly says it has found "new hardware" and
wants to install "generic volume shadow copy" - the
certificate is not approved. Sometimes it also wants to
install "generic volume", also with an unapproved
certificate.

What "hardware" might XP suddenly think it's found right
in the middle of my surfing the net or using Word or
whatever?

What are these and since I don't think I need them, what
is triggering Windows to suddenly think it needs them?

TIA

Louise

My computer (XP, 768MB) has also "installed new hardware" which turned out to be "generic volumes"
This is a direct result of installing Roxio Easy CD-DVD Creator v6 which came bundled with a TDK 8X DVD+- drive
It has also stopped my Logical Disk Manager and PQ Drive Image from displaying drive letters, and some other effects
If Roxio was one of your installs, there is a link. TDK and Roxio aren't helping
Good luck, ...Al
