Create a new shortcut to "Explorer.exe", and re-write the command line in
the shortcut to read :

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\

.....will result in Explorer starting in C:\ drive with the "folders pane"
visible.

You don't have to run Google searches or make a new shortcut.

Microsoft tells you how to change the default opening folder in
Windows Explorer:

Well personally I find it a hell of a lot easier to do a search in Google
over searching MS's site.
